Legal Information

Last updated: 2 November 2026

This page collects, in one place, the company and legal information that South African law expects a commercial website to publish. It explains who is responsible for this website, what you may and may not do with it, what rights and limits attach to its content, and where the other policies that govern your relationship with us can be found. It is written in plain language so that a reader who is not a lawyer can follow the practical consequences. If anything here is unclear, write to us using the contact route described below and we will explain it.

1. Who operates this website, and in what capacity

This website, Newscra.com, is an online publication about entertainment, celebrity culture and the people who shape South African popular culture. It is operated on a commercial basis: we publish editorial content, sell magazine issues, subscriptions and related products, and carry advertising. The site also includes a blog and journal section that is updated regularly.

The legal entity that operates the website is Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa. Newscra.com is the brand under which that company publishes and trades. The company is the party that contracts with readers, advertisers and shoppers, that owns or licenses the domain and the editorial archive, and that answers for the personal information processed through the site.

In the language of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (“ECTA”), the company is the website operator and supplier. In the language of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”), it is the responsible party. In the language of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, it is the supplier of the goods and services offered here. In ordinary language: the company is the publisher, and it is the party you are dealing with.

1.1 Roles in more detail

  • Publisher and editor: the company decides what is published, commissions and edits contributions, and takes responsibility for the editorial content of the site.
  • Supplier: the company sells magazine issues, subscriptions and related goods and takes payment through the methods described on the site.
  • Responsible party: the company decides why and how personal information is used, and answers to the Information Regulator for that processing.
  • Brand and domain owner: the company holds the rights in the Newscra.com name and in the content published under it, subject to the rights of individual contributors.

2. Legal form, registration details, tax identifiers and responsible representatives

South African law requires a commercial website to identify the business behind it with enough precision that a customer, a regulator or a court can find that business and serve documents on it. The following details therefore appear on this page.

2.1 Company details

  • Registered legal name: Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd
  • Brand or trading name: Newscra.com
  • Legal form: a private company incorporated in the Republic of South Africa with limited liability, registered in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008
  • Company registration number: 2026/014818/07
  • Registration authority: the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
  • Country of incorporation: South Africa
  • Director and responsible representative: Gunnar Oberhosel

2.2 Tax identifiers

The company is not registered for Value-Added Tax. No VAT is charged on the prices shown on this site and none is included in those prices. A VAT registration number is therefore not published here, because publishing a number that does not exist would be misleading. Should the company register for VAT in future, the VAT number will be added to this section and to the footer information shown on every page.

2.3 Licences, codes of conduct and self-regulatory bodies

The company does not belong to a self-regulatory body or industry ombud scheme in respect of this website, and it does not subscribe to an external code of conduct that would apply in addition to South African law. Where a specific activity requires a licence, the relevant licence will be described in this section. Nothing in this paragraph limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, POPIA or any other statute.

2.4 Company records and documents

Registered company documents — the registration certificate, the memorandum of incorporation and, where applicable, the annual returns filed with CIPC — are available to the extent provided for in the Companies Act 71 of 2008 and the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000. A request for access to a company record should be directed to the information officer using the contact route set out below.

3. Registered office and contact details

The company’s registered office and principal place of business in South Africa is at 118 Long Road, Bergbron, Randburg, 1712, South Africa. This is the address at which legal documents may be served and the address used for correspondence about orders, editorial complaints and data protection requests.

The company’s email address for legal, editorial and commercial correspondence is help@newscra.com. Email is the preferred channel for all written communication because it creates a clear record of what was asked and when. Please include your name, the nature of your enquiry and, if your message concerns an order, the order reference. We try to acknowledge correspondence within a few working days and to give a substantive answer as soon as we reasonably can.

3.1 The information officer

Under POPIA, every responsible party must appoint an information officer who is registered with the Information Regulator and who acts as the first point of contact for the exercise of data subject rights. Our information officer can be reached at help@newscra.com, marked “for the attention of the information officer”. Requests to access or correct personal information, objections to processing, requests for deletion and complaints about the processing of personal information should all be sent to that address. We aim to answer within the periods laid down in POPIA, and we will tell you promptly if more time is needed.

3.2 Contact form and the Contacts page

This site also provides a contact form on its Contacts page, reachable from every page of the site. Messages sent through the form reach the same inbox as ordinary email correspondence. The form asks for your own contact details so that we can reply to you; those details are used only to handle your enquiry and are processed in line with our Privacy Policy.

4. Purpose, scope and intended audience of the website

Newscra.com is an entertainment magazine and celebrity culture publication aimed primarily at readers in South Africa. Its purpose is to report on and comment on South African and international entertainment: film, television, music, streaming, awards, red-carpet events, celebrity interviews, the business of fame and the wider popular culture that surrounds it.

The site is intended for a general readership aged eighteen and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly design features or content for children. We may publish material about adult themes where it is editorially justified; where content is likely to be sensitive, we try to flag it clearly.

The site contains:

  • news and feature journalism about entertainment and celebrity culture;
  • interviews, profiles, opinion and commentary;
  • photography, illustration and, where relevant, video or audio material;
  • a blog and journal updated regularly with shorter pieces, previews and notices;
  • a shop selling magazine issues, subscriptions and related products, and advertising placements sold to third parties.

The site is published in English. Although it is aimed at South Africa, it can be read from anywhere; the legal framework described on this page is nonetheless the law of the Republic of South Africa.

5. Access to the website and acceptable use

You may browse the site free of charge. Some features — commenting, shopping, subscribing to a newsletter, or accessing subscriber-only content — may require you to register or to provide information. Access is provided on the terms below, which form part of your agreement with us when you use the site.

5.1 What you may do

  • Read, view and share links to our pages for your own personal, non-commercial use.
  • Quote short extracts of our content, with clear attribution to Newscra.com and a reference back to the page.
  • Use the contact form, the blog and the shop for their intended purposes.
  • Reproduce material where a legal exception or a licence permits it.

5.2 What you may not do

  • Copy, republish, resell or systematically extract substantial parts of the site, including by scraping, bulk downloading or automated crawling that places an unreasonable load on our systems.
  • Use the site to harass, defame, threaten, impersonate or unlawfully discriminate against any person, including public figures and the subjects of our reporting.
  • Post or transmit unlawful material, malicious code, advertising or spam through any interactive feature.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, its databases, subscriber accounts or any related system.
  • Do anything that interferes with the normal operation of the website or that could reasonably be expected to damage its reputation or that of its contributors.
  • Remove, obscure or circumvent copyright notices, paywalls, watermarks or access controls.

If you breach these rules we may suspend or terminate your access, remove content, refuse an order or take legal steps where appropriate. Comments and other user contributions may be moderated or removed at our discretion, particularly where they are unlawful or where they expose us or our contributors to legal risk.

5.3 Accounts and security

If you create an account, keep your credentials confidential and tell us immediately at help@newscra.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account, unless that activity results from our own failure to keep the site secure.

6. Intellectual property, content ownership and permitted use

All content on this website — text, headlines, photographs, illustrations, graphics, layout, design, logos and the compilation of the site as a whole — is owned by the company, licensed to the company, or used with the permission of the rights holder. Contributors such as photographers, writers and artists keep the rights they have agreed with us, and their work may not be reused beyond the licence we hold.

The name Newscra.com, its logo and any related marks are trade marks of the company or are used under licence. You may not use our name or marks in a way that suggests endorsement, partnership or affiliation without written permission. Fair, descriptive references to the publication — for example in a review or a news report — are permitted.

6.1 What is prohibited

  • Copying our articles or images into another publication, website, newsletter, course pack or dataset.
  • Using our photography or illustration in advertising, merchandise or artificial-intelligence training sets without a written licence.
  • Framing or embedding our pages in a way that presents them as part of another service.
  • Using our marks in domains, handles or product names that could confuse readers.

6.2 Permission requests and takedown notices

Licence and syndication requests should be sent to help@newscra.com. If you believe that material published on this site infringes your copyright or another right, write to the same address with a description of the work, the page concerned and proof that you hold the right. We investigate promptly and will remove or amend material where a claim is made out. We reserve the right to publish a correction or clarification where the record should be set straight.

7. Accuracy, availability and proportionate limitation of liability

We take care to publish accurate journalism. Even so, entertainment journalism deals with fast-moving events, preliminary reports and public statements that may later be corrected, contradicted or withdrawn. Opinion, commentary, satire and reader contributions are not statements of fact and should not be read as such. Nothing on this site is professional advice — legal, financial, medical or otherwise — and it should not be relied on in place of advice from a qualified professional.

7.1 Availability

We aim to keep the site available, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. The site may be unavailable during maintenance, updates, hosting failures, network problems or events beyond our control. Features may change or be withdrawn.

7.2 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the company is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data or loss of opportunity arising from your use of the site or from reliance on its content. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our liability is limited to the amount you paid to us for the product or service giving rise to the claim, or to a reasonable amount where no payment was made.

Nothing on this page excludes or limits liability that South African law does not allow to be excluded or limited. In particular, nothing here removes your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, including your rights in respect of goods that are defective or not as described, or your rights under section 44 of ECTA in respect of an electronic transaction.

8. External links and third-party content

The site refers to other websites, embeds material from social platforms and other services, and carries advertising and sponsored content supplied by third parties. These are provided for convenience and context. We do not control third-party sites, we do not endorse everything they publish, and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, security or privacy practices.

When you follow a reference or interact with an embedded player, advertisement or social plug-in, you leave our environment or engage directly with another provider, and that provider’s terms and privacy policy apply. We recommend that you read them. If you believe a reference from our site is misleading, unlawful or points to harmful content, tell us at help@newscra.com and we will review it.

Advertising and sponsored material is distinguished from editorial content. Where a commercial arrangement could affect the way a reader understands a piece, we label it.

9. Personal information and privacy

The company processes personal information as a responsible party under POPIA. That means it must process personal information lawfully and in a reasonable manner, collect it for a specific and defined purpose, keep it accurate and secure, and allow the people concerned to exercise their rights.

In broad terms, we process personal information to publish and improve the site, to reply to messages, to process orders and deliveries, to manage subscriptions, to measure how the site is used, to prevent abuse and fraud, and to comply with the law. We share information only with service providers who help us operate — hosting, payment processing, delivery and email — and only to the extent they need it.

9.1 Your rights

  • To be told what personal information we hold and why we hold it.
  • To ask for a record of your personal information and for a description of the third parties who have received it.
  • To ask for the correction or deletion of information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or unlawfully obtained.
  • To object to processing in the circumstances POPIA allows.
  • To complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).

Requests are handled by the information officer at help@newscra.com. Full detail, including how long we keep different categories of information and which recipients may receive it, is set out in our Privacy Policy.

9.2 Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential, such as those that remember your session and the choices you make in the cookie banner; others are used for measurement and, where you consent, for advertising. A banner appears when you arrive, and you can change your choices at any time. Further detail, including the categories of cookies used and how to withdraw consent, is set out in our Cookie Policy.

10. Shopping, subscriptions and consumer rights

Where you buy something from us, several documents apply together: the Terms and Conditions, the Payment and Refund Policy, the delivery information on the site and this page. The Terms and Conditions govern the contract between you and the company; the Payment and Refund Policy explains how payment is taken, when an order is accepted and how refunds are handled.

In summary, and without replacing those documents:

  • Consumers have the right to cancel an electronic transaction in the circumstances set out in section 44 of ECTA, and the right to fair, honest and reasonable terms under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
  • Goods must be delivered as described and within a reasonable time; if a copy arrives damaged, tell us at help@newscra.com as soon as you can after delivery.
  • Prices, delivery arrangements and the shipping or collection options are described on the relevant product and delivery pages and form part of the agreement.
  • Nothing in this legal information page overrides the Terms and Conditions or your statutory rights; where there is a conflict, the law and the Terms and Conditions prevail.

11. Applicable law, competent courts and dispute resolution

This website, these terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. The company accepts service of legal documents at its registered office.

If you have a problem, please raise it with us first at help@newscra.com. We would far rather resolve a matter directly than have you escalate it, and most issues are resolved this way. If we cannot settle it between us, you may refer it to the National Consumer Commission, to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud where that body has jurisdiction, to the Information Regulator for data protection complaints, or to the courts of the Republic of South Africa. Nothing here prevents you from approaching a court directly, or from using any other forum or remedy that the law allows.

12. Changes to this page, and how to reach us

We review this page at least once a year, and sooner when the law changes, when the business changes or when a material error is found. When we make a material change, we update the date at the top of the page and, where the change affects your rights in a significant way, we will try to draw it to your attention on the site or by email. The version published here is the current one and it replaces any earlier version.

Correspondence about the legal information on this page should be sent by email to help@newscra.com or by post to 118 Long Road, Bergbron, Randburg, 1712, South Africa. Please mark correspondence about company details as “legal information” so that it reaches the right person.
